Llano Estacado V2 - Built to order
BUILT TO ORDER DESCRIPTION BELOW-
All orders for the time being are built to order. Being a one man shop can be difficult to maintain large releases. However, I am much more able to build pedals as they come in one at a time. Therefore V2 Llano Estacados will be hand built at the time of your order. All pedals should ship within 1-2 business days of your order being received. This also allows for a much more Custom build process and allows me to make any tweaks you think you may want (within reason) during the ordering process. Simply place your order like normal on the website and I will begin making your pedal right away.
*****V2 now available! After feedback from our customers and rigorous re-design and testing, we are proud to announce V2 of our best selling pedal. V2 is virtually identical to V1 but with a completely re-designed Jose mod. With the original pedal we went for authenticity to the original Jose circuitry and made tweaks to try and get close to the sound. Unfortunately JFets don’t translate exactly to the behavior and tone of 12AX7 tubes. Therefore we decided to do away with authenticity to circuit and instead went for authenticity of sound. The Jose switch now uses a OpAmp style boos rather than a Jfet boost. This allows for more gain, better stability, and a tighter more responsive sound, while still keeping true to the distinctive Plexi sound. Additionally we have included new artwork for all new cases.
Modeled after arguably the most iconic amplifier in rock and roll history. Designed from the ground up to obtain the most classic Plexi sounds. From bright clean to saturated VH brown sound. Any British sound you’re looking for it can do it. Anyone who knows Plexi sounds knows that the sound is more than just replicating the preamp. The sound is also heavily affected by the power amp and output transformer being saturated. So, we added those portions to the pedal. It has the exact preamp of the amp using JFets in place of Tubes, a power amp section, and a real output transformer. This gives you all the important sections of the amplifier to truly give you an authentic British sound. Features soft switch true bypass relay switching.
Settings:
Volume - Master volume for the pedal
Gain - Controls the gain going from the first stage to the second stage, same place as the amplifier
Presence - Controls the overall brightness of the pedal.
Treble - Active high end control. Noon is no change. To the right boost high end, to the left cuts high end.
Bass - Active low-end control. Noon is no change. To the right boost low end, to the left cuts low end.
Variac - clockwise reduces the voltage to the power amp section causing compression and sag the same way turning the voltage down on a real variac would.
All 10 Switch - Eddie Van Halen was notorious for turning all the knobs on his amplifier all the way up to obtain his particular sound. This has a very specific effect on the amplifier that does not translate exactly in pedal form. However, we have found a way to replicate that using a simple switch. Up turns all the knobs to 10, Down all knobs at noon. Up adds more gain, tightness, and compression.
Jose/Eddie Switch - Throughout the 80s there was a particularly gifted amp modder in LA named Jose. Jose Arredondo would modify marshall amplifiers to give them the sound of being turned up at lower volumes. Eddie Van Halen throughout the most famous years used a completely stock amplifier. That’s right, stock. The LLano Estacado Gives you both options. Down (Eddie) is a stock amplifier with No mods. Up (Jose) adds the standard Jose mod to the circuit. In Jose mode, the sound is tighter and more responsive but does not push the power section as hard.
Internal controls -
Poweramp - Controls the amount of gain added by the power amp section. This control should really only be used to adjust for lower output pickups that may need more gain. ***WARNING*** turning this up too high with high output pickups can overload the pedal
Bright - Adds the notorious bright cap to the gain knob adding more treble to the overall sound.
Deep - A common modification added by Jose Arredondo to the third stage. This adds a bit more gain, more bass, and more fullness but can be less tight and responsive.
