In my many years of playing guitar I have noticed that guitar players fall somewhere on this spectrum.

On one end there’s Prince. Prince was notorious for his ultra minimalist boss only pedalboard just wanted whatever worked. He didn’t care about which company made it, what the features were, or even for that matter probably how good the sound quality was. He was so concentrated on the music that the sound was put on the back burner. And yet was still known for amazing tone and musicality.

On the other side was Eddie Van Halen. Making music was a journey through songwriting as well as tone crafting. Every tinny piece mattered. What voltage to run an amp at, What string gauge to use, The Iron content of an output transformer, Even the cable mattered. Giving us again an absolutely unforgettable tone that has been searched for ever since.

Most of us fall in between but we are all somewhere on this spectrum. Whether you just want something that works or want to obsess over every tiny detail Dos Rios Audio is here to make it happen.

History: I come from a family of Cowboys and self taught engineers. My father taught himself aeronautical and mechanical engineering to build an airplane in his garage. My great grandfather (who never went to college), taught himself civil engineering and built dams in south Texas for cattle and farm irrigation. Without any formal training I ended up following a similar path through my passion for tone chasing.

I was always inspired by classic tones of rock and roll. Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Jerry Cantrell, Eric Clapton, John Sykes… the list goes on. I wanted to be able to play all these tones at an instant. Through my pursuit I tried every modeler that I could get a hold of to program all these classic sounds to be available for quick recall. However, as awesome as digital effects can be for delay, reverb, and even modulation. Amp sounds still lacked the attack and organic feel of a tube amplifier. Maybe they will catch up some day but until then Analog is the way to go.

Mission: Dos Rios Audio was born, Named after my grandfathers cattle ranch in north eastern New Mexico. My goal has been to create low maintenance authentic classic amplifier sounds using only analog components. To give players on either end of the spectrum a tool for inspiration. Our pedals aim to emulate classic amplifier sounds without sacrificing attack and organic feel.
